More About Adam
Adam Clarke
5th year/Defense
UMSL Tritons

When Adam Clarke's college career is through, he will be remembered as one of the most accomplished players in college roller hockey history.

Adam, now in his third season as UMSL captain and his final season of college roller hockey eligibility, is an accomplished veteran who has played more than his share of high-stakes hockey.

In '07-08, Clarke led UMSL to a second-place national finish in its first season as a Division I team.  He finished second on the team in scoring and was a first-team NCRHA All-American, winning Nationals all-tournament honors for the fifth time in his career.  He put up points in all 28 games, meaning he has points in 39 straight games and counting, and has scored points in 71 of his last 72 games.

Adam made history as the captain of the team that ended Lindenwood's 109-game win streak, scoring a goal and adding an assist to lead UMSL to a 6-4 victory over LU in the GPCIHL Division I championship.

Number 47 has made his mark on UMSL Inline Hockey through numerous clutch postseason contributions, and 2008 saw him add yet another chapter.  He led the Tritons with six goals and eight points in their run to the regional championship, and stepped up once again at Nationals, putting up multiple points in six of seven games.  He racked up a team-best seven points (3-4) in two games on Championship Sunday as UMSL finished second in the nation after a 6-3 championship game defeat to Lindenwood.

During the '07 offseason, Clarke proved himself over and over again at the highest levels.

In late May, at the 2007 Professional Inline Hockey Association championship series in Colorado Springs, Clarke was a top-pairing defenseman for the Southside Snipers in the absence of world-class superstars Greg Thompson and Tommy Bruce.  The Snipers lost in seven games, but Clarke scored two goals and added three assists during the series as he dug deep and put on his usual awesome clutch performance, including a nasty backhand power-play goal that gave the Snipers a 3-1 lead with 5:46 left in their eventual 4-3 Game Five victory, which gave Southside a 3-2 series edge and raised the Snipers to the brink of winning the championship.

A day earlier, the Snipers had been nervous and tense, looking up at their opponent from the bottom of a 2-0 hole.  But Clarke and teammates Zack Reis, Chris Loness, and Phil Maroon breathed life into the team, and nearly lifted the Snipers to the championship.

In July, at the NARCh Finals in Florida, Clarke helped the Great Plains Elite All-Stars to the national championship in the inaugural season of the NCRHA/NARCh alliance, giving the GPCIHL the right to claim itself as the top college league (or region) in the U.S.  Adam also competed in the Pro division at NARCh, which is considered the highest level of competition in the sport of inline hockey worldwide.

In August, Clarke brought a lockdown defensive presence to Team Missouri in the Senior division at State Wars III.  As usual, teammates heaped praise upon Clarke's consistent excellence at both ends of the floor.

Adam was brilliant throughout the 2006-07 collegiate season, earning second-team All-America honors for the second straight year while leading UMSL to a regional championship and DII national final four appearance.

In 2005-06, he made a huge impact during his debut season with UMSL, leading the Rivermen to the national championship game.  Clarke was named to the all-tournament team at the College Roller Hockey National Championships after putting up 16 points in seven games and playing his usual lockdown defense.  It was his third career all-tournament honor.

Adam scored UMSL's biggest goal of the year when he finished a Ben Lambert rebound to beat Brockport 2-1 in overtime of the NCRHA Division II semifinal, giving himself the opportunity to play in his fourth national final.  His second goal of the day pulled UMSL to within one in the third period of the eventual 4-3 loss to Neumann.

Clarke's productivity and leadership as a newcomer made him a solid choice to replace James Wetton as captain in his second season.  His experience sealed the deal.

Clarke starred as a member of back-to-back Division III national championship teams under coach Chris Marchand at St. Charles CC in 2003 and 2004, after leading Meramec to the national final as a freshman in '02.

At the 2003 Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships, Clarke won the DIII tournament's Top Playmaker award and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

In 29 career collegiate national-championship tournament games, Clarke has racked up 54 points (24 goals, 30 assists).  In five collegiate seasons, he has played in four national championship games.

Adam is a well-rounded player who possesses a rare combination of size, smarts, and skill.  He is tough, poised, and confident, and his hockey sense is off the charts.  He was named league MVP in 2005-06 after proving that he was easily the best defensive player in Great Plains DII.  And he can certainly score: Clarke finished third in the country in points by a defenseman in his first season at UMSL, and scored points in 23 of 24 games during his second.

Adam's skills are exceptional, but what truly sets him apart is his tremendous character.  He has the mindset of a champion, leading by example in every possible way.

Adam humbly commands respect, and not just among his teammates.  He is one of the most well respected players in the St. Louis roller hockey community.

Clarke is UMSL's undisputed leader.  He was awarded the 'C' in May 2006, when two-year captain James Wetton graduated.

This is Clarke's team, mostly because of the essential attributes he happens to share with Wetton.

Fearless, consistent, and productive.  And mentally tough to the extreme.  That's an UMSL captain.
