Mount Pleasant, Pa - Mike Diorio scored three straight for Rutgers and Chris Notley registered two points to lead the Scarlet Knights past the Buckeyes of Ohio State, 6-4.
Chris Notley opened the scoring for Rutgers scoring an unassisted goal just two minutes into the contest for the early lead. Ohio State responded by getting the tying goal just over two minutes later when Tyler Moyer and Cody Berkebile hooked up and tied the game at one.
Things stayed that way until just over three minutes into the second when Collin Brady buried a Jared Reisman pass into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead. Mike Diorio extended the lead to two goals with his first goal of the game off a feed from Chris McManus. David Hollingshead kept things close by going coast to coast for the unassisted shorthanded tally to cut the lead to 3-2.
Four minutes into the third period, Rutgers worked the puck around before eventually doubling their lead with Diorio's second goal of the game. Two minutes later, Diorio would finish off his hat trick and score the eventual game winner and extend the Rutgers lead to 5-2.
Ohio State wouldn't go quietly, scoring two goals in 1:41 seconds to set up a tense finish. Moyer and Berkebile scored the goals for the pressing Buckeyes. In the final two minutes of the game, Robbie Fulton blocked shot after shot and eventually fired the puck the length of the rink into the empty net to ice the game with one second left on the clock.
