Mt. Prospect preview

In the last event before the regional playoffs, the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League heads to Mt. Prospect, Ill. for an eight-team event this weekend.

Teams attending:

D2: Miami (Ohio)

D3: Akron, DePaul, Michigan Tech, Ohio State

D4: Grand Valley, Michigan State

JC: Henry Ford

Miami (7-8) kicks off the action on Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. matchup against Michigan State D-4 (10-5). The Redhawks finish Saturday with a couple Division 3 clashes against Michigan Tech (3:00 p.m.) and DePaul (8:00 p.m.), finishing the weekend facing division foe Henry Ford (4-9-2) at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Miami currently sits four points ahead of HFC.

HFC looks to surpass Miami in the standings with a few other games taking place on Saturday, including matchups vs. Grand Valley D-4 (10:00 a.m.), MSU (2:00 p.m.), and OSU (5:00 p.m.).

All four Division 3 teams from the MCRHL will be attendance, all jockeying for playoff position at regionals.

OSU (4-6) currently resides at the top of the Division 3 standings with Akron (3-7) just two points behind. These two will not see each other this weekend, but both will face Michigan Tech and DePaul with OSU adding a game against HFC, while Akron battles against MSU at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Both Division 4 teams from the MCRHL will have a few final tune-ups before regionals. MSU and Grand Valley (5-6) will meet each other on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in what expects to be a highly-spirited matchup.

Michigan State D-1, Grand Valley D-2 and Western Michigan are the only teams from the MCRHL that will not make the trip as they will take a couple weeks to rest up for the MCRHL Championships at Joe Dumars Fieldhouse on March 2-3.
