Michigan State D3 swept the Championship Series 2-0.  Two games, 9 periods, and some great hockey.  No lead was safe in this game.  Andrew Budai opened up the scoring for a Grand Valley with a Short-Handed goal midway through the first.  42 seconds later Michigan State’s Jake Vinton scored on the Power Play.  Teams were tied 1-1 after the first period.  Both teams traded chances all period long but no one could find the back of the net until Grand Valley took a 2-1 lead on Carl Soderling’s goal.  However, the Lakers couldn’t take the lead in intermission though as Anthony Moran tied the game with 3 seconds to go.  Tyler Glenfield snapped one home halfway through the third period to give GVSU another lead.  This lead would hold up a little longer that the past 2 but MSU still found the answer off the stick of Stephen Krause.  Both teams took tightened up and this game looked destined to OT.  Blake Kocsis scored with 1:10 remaining to give the Spartans their first lead.  After taking their timeout Grand Valley quickly got their goalie to the bench and setup in the Spartans zone.  Jeremy Schmaltz ripped a shot from the point and the rebound kicked out to the stick of Kyle Kozler and we were tied again.  The fans hadn’t even found their seats to start OT when Jake Vinton buried a rebound in the first minute for his second of the game and the D3 regional championship game winner.  Congrats to the Spartans on the win and to the Lakers on a great series
