Michigan State Wins D1 Title
The Spartans capped off an undefeated MCRHL season with a 2-0 win over Grand Valley. Tucker Gilliland played outstanding. He made countless big saves early and late in the game on his way to a 25 save shutout. At the other end, Grand Valley’s Chance Boutin was on top of his game as well. Michigan State controlled the game on had numerous opportunities in the 2nd period. He came up with save after sace. However, on a power play late in the period MSU’s Tyler Bolyard found the back of the net off a pass from Eric Purcell. That goal held up as the game winner as GVSU couldn’t solve Gilliland. With Boutin on the bench and the Lakers looking for the equalizer MSU’s Chase Kallen scored into the empty net with 23 seconds to go. Congrats to both the Spartans and the Lakers on a hard fought championship game.
